Here are two of the clever entries in the scarecrow contest sponsored by the Coudersport Area Chamber of Commerce for the Falling Leaves Festival. The scarecrows bring a festive fall touch to downtown Coudersport this month.

Falling Leaves Festival Chairperson Nancy Grupp reported at the October 18 Chamber of Commerce Meeting that the Falling Leaves Festival is expected to raise about $2,000 for the Chamber's coffers. Thanks to the committee for a job well done despite the dismal weather that weekend.

Change Of Ownership At Always In Bloom
Always In Bloom, a downtown flower and gift shop, has changed ownership. Amy Burrous (center), an employee at the business for 11 years, has acquired the business from Teri Metzger. The store is also a JC Penney catalog center. Chamber officers Stan Swank and Nancy Grupp participated in the ribbon cutting. Welcome to the business community, Amy!

Hauber's Jewelry Has New Owner
Chamber President Stan Swank and Board member Nancy Grupp officially welcomed Sandra Kenyon, the new owner of Hauber Jewelry Store, to the Coudersport Area Chamber of Commerce. She is pictured with David Hauber, longtime Chamber member and former Chamber president. Hauber turned over the keys to the Main Street business but will be working a couple of days a week until the transition is complete. Welcome to the business community Sandra!

First Citizens Supports Boys and Girls Club
First Citizens National Bank recently donated $200 to the Boys and Girls Club of Potter County. Boys and Girls Club: A Dream Becomes Reality
A small group gathered on Monday, August 29 for a ribbon cutting ceremony signaling the opening of the Boys & Girls Club of Potter County at The Alliance Youth Barn.
The Club will open its doors to youth after school on Monday, September 19. Youth can ride the bus to the Club but will need to be picked up by parents. The Club will be open after school until 6:15 pm every school day. Cost is $25 per student with a maximum of $50 for the 2011-2012 school year.
Membership applications can be downloaded from the Club’s website or picked up at Representative Causer’s Office.
The Boys & Girls Club of Potter County is a 501 c(3) non-profit organization. Its mission statement: To enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.

New Member Joins Chamber of Commerce
Coudersport Area Chamber of Commerce welcomed another new member, as Potter County Beverage, which has been under new ownership since March, joined the civic organization. Owner Mike Kurtz (third from right) said he is anxious to build on the business’s history of more than a quarter-century. An expanded selection of craft beers and keg options is among the changes. The business, located at 434 East Second Street, is open 8 am to 8 pm Friday and Saturday, noon to 5 pm Sundays, and 8 to 6 on Monday through Thursday. Welcome To Potter County Beverage
Potter County Beverage, located on Route 6 east of Coudersport, recently changed hands and joined the CACOC. Board members officially welcomed the new member with a ribbon cutting on Thursday, June 23.

Festival Of Lights Donates To Local Groups

Moon Tree Dedicated
Until recently, few people knew that one of the trees at CARP (Coudersport Area Recreation Park) had traveled to the moon and back! Local nurserywoman Carol Patterson had nursed the tree back to health and planted it at the local park in the 1970s. Earlier this year, the Coudersport Area Lions Club made plans to erect a plaque next to the tree to bring attention to Potter County's connection to the NASA space program. More than 40 people, including Mrs. Patterson (seated center), attended a dedication ceremony on Friday, April 29.

Thanks For Ice Skating Fun!
Coudersport Area Chamber of Commerce expressed its appreciation to a local high school student who established an ice skating rink next to the borough office. Chamber directors presented a certificate of appreciation to Holden Ottolini, who pointed out that he is looking for a successor to take care of the rink. Judge Minor Addresses Chamber of Commerce
Judge Stephen Minor (left) touched on several topics as guest speaker for the Coudersport Area Chamber of Commerce monthly luncheon in March. He discussed the county Criminal Justice Advisory Board’s study of specialty courts for criminals who have mental health and/or drug addiction issues. The judge also asked Chamber members to consider volunteering to supervise jail inmates who could be assigned to community improvement projects. He’s shown with Chamber president Stan Swank.

Maple Weekend On Tap
Potter County Commissioners Doug Morley and Paul Heimel joined Larry Hamilton of the Potter-Tioga Maple Producers and Suzan Paisley, a member of the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, to tap one of the maple trees on the courthouse square to mark the state's Maple Producers Week (March 21-27).

Welcome To New Member
Coudersport Area Chamber of Commerce welcomes another new member. Karie Saler (left) and Shanon Sallade (center) joined Chamber Board president Stan Swank and secretary Britta Hooftallen for a ceremonial ribbon cutting at Coudersport Beverage on Port Allegany Road (Rt. 6 west). Bill and Shanon Sallade and Jason and Karie Saler acquired the business in November 2009. Open 7 days a week, 9 am to 7 pm Monday through Thursday, 9 to 8 on Friday and Saturday, and noon to 5 on Sunday, offering soft drinks, beer and specialty beverages.

Ribbon Cutting Welcomes New Chamber Member
Erie Homes for Children and Adults was welcomed as one of the newest members of the Coudersport Area Chamber of Commerce with a ribbon cutting ceremony. EHCA has been providing programming for people with disabilities from its Coudersport office, in the former Job Service office at Second and West streets, since August 2009. Program Specialist Debra Grubbs (with scissors) was joined with EHCA staff and participants for the ceremony. Chamber of Commerce board of directors representatives on hand included Stan Swank (far left), president; Samantha Cossman (far right), vice president; Britta Hooftallen (second from right), secretary; and Curt Weinhold, who took the photo.

Annual Holiday Tradition
Thanks are extended to the staff of the Hotel Crittenden for providing a complimentary holiday breakfast for the Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, December 14. Members also enjoyed a visit from Santa Claus.

Serenity Massage Opens West Street Location
Jennifer McCleary and Clay Gooch cut the ribbon to officially open the doors of the new location of Serenity Massage at 200 North West Street in Coudersport. The business offers personal fitness training and therapeutic massage. Chamber Board members Nancy Grupp, Carol Jackson, Stan Swank and Jane Metzger look on.

On Friday, December 3 members of the Coudersport Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors cut the ribbon to officially open Ampersand Ink under the ownership of Gary Francis and Jon Blumer. The sign and graphics company is located in Ladona at the intersection of Rt. 872 and Route 6 E.

Wagner Family Honored At Banquet
Carol Wagner (center) and her brother-in-law Ralph Wagner applaud as Chamber President Stan Swank announces member honors. Shortly after this photo was taken, the Wagner family (including Susan Wagner) accepted recognition for their generous donation of a flat screen television to the Chamber for use in a community development raffle. The Chamber realized $1400 in profit from the raffle.

Bob Veilleux was guest speaker for the Chamber's Annual Banquet. His talk about the potential economic impact of the Marcellus Shale natural gas boom was well received by members.
